Encouragement

At this point of the semester, many students are feeling tired, discouraged and overworked.

I know, this is hard.

Thanksgiving is next week, and you can rest a bit. Better yet, you can use the extra time to catch up on projects you're behind in. Also, it is a good time to start studying for your semester finals.

I can hear you groaning! I know you don't want to think about it, but, really, take Thanksgiving day off; take Friday off, too. Then, on Saturday, open your books. Skim over the vocabulary words for the chapter you're on. Go back to the beginning of the book, and check each chapter test. Make sure you can remember how to do the problems, even if you don't actually work them out.

If you can't, write down what chapter and what problems it is. Use this list with your teacher or your tutor to start studying for your finals.

Make the most of your time off!

I say this as my own daughter pulled out her homework on Saturday, but ended up not touching it. Last night, she worked on it, but stayed up until midnight to do so. Her teacher had suggested that she do 3 problems from each sub-section of each section to study for a chapter test. Because she waited until the last minute, she was so stressed out that she didn't learn anything and didn't finish the work.

I hate it when this happens, and so does she. She knows that it is her own fault. She knows she should have done a little on Friday, a little on Saturday and then yesterday wouldn't have been bad, she could have finished up and reviewed. Instead, she was stressed and didn't get enough sleep.

She will have a bad day, because she didn't get enough sleep, and will be stressed today and tonight. Being stressed today before she even begins her homework will mean she will have trouble doing tonight's homework, and this just creates a self-perpetuating cycle.

Not to mention that *I* will be stressed, because I also didn't get enough sleep, and will be short-tempered by the time I get home.

So, don't let this happen to you! Over the Thanksgiving weekend, make sure you work a little at a time on your schoolwork. If you don't have any assigned homework, there is still studying to be done for your finals coming up!

Keep at it, a little at a time, and you'll be ready for your finals next month!
